NEW JERSEY LOCAL GOVERNMENT ETHICS LAW (link in the image).
Legislature finds and declares that:
a. Public office and employment are a public trust;
b. The vitality and stability of representative democracy depend upon the public’s confidence in the integrity of its elected and appointed representatives;
c. Whenever the public perceives a conflict between the private interests and the public duties of a government officer or employee, that confidence is imperiled;
d. Governments have the duty both to provide their citizens with standards by which they may determine whether public duties are being faithfully performed, and to apprise their officers and employees of the behavior which is expected of them while conducting their public duties; and
e. It is the purpose of this act to provide a method of assuring that standards of ethical conduct and financial disclosure requirements for local government officers and employees shall be clear, consistent, uniform in their application, and enforceable on a Statewide basis, and to provide local officers or employees with advice and information concerning possible conflicts of interest which might arise in the conduct of their public duties.
Title 40 is often cited at municipal meetings. Below is a link for Title 40.
We particularly like, Title 40:69A-165. Promise of office, position, employment or benefits forbidden. No candidate for office, appointment or employment, and no officer, appointee, or employee in any municipality shall directly or indirectly give or promise any person any office, position, employment, benefit or anything of value for the purpose of influencing or obtaining the political support, aid or vote of any person, under the penalty of being disqualified to hold the office or employment to which he may be or may have been elected or appointed.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority has posted on their home page its Long-Range Capital Plan. It was approved May 2020. Exit 20 has been a big topic of conversation in Upper Township. Details about the full interchange are on page 20.
“This plan encompasses twenty-three (23) County owned and operated bridges, as well as five (5) bridges owned and operated by the Commission. The primary emphasis over the next fifteen (15) years is to address critical infrastructure needs by replacing the bridges that have surpassed their serviceable life while improving and maintaining the safety and integrity of the remaining bridges.”

Did you know there is an Alcoholic Beverage Control Handbook for Issuing Municipal Authorities? (Link Below). Seems timely to share this public information since at the last Upper Township Committee meeting a great deal of time was used to discuss renewing a local liquor license. Municipal government is the watchdog for taxpayers. "Responsibility for policing and enforcing the alcoholic beverage control laws of this State (on the retail level) rests with the municipal issuing authority as well as with the Director. (N.J.S.A. 33:1-31.) The municipality may revoke or suspend a license for any reason expressed in N.J .S.A. 33:1-31. (See also N.J.A.C. 13:2-1 9. 1 , et seq.) It is important that particular attention be paid to disciplinary proceedings instituted at the municipal level. Well prepared and documented cases with proper notice often preclude appeals with consequent savings of time and resources." Be informed.
